Color Outside The Lines

Most partner dance is taught inside the lines. Step here, turn there, hold this, release that. The structure is useful, it is how we learn to communicate through movement. But at some point, staying inside the lines becomes the thing that holds you back.

Color Outside the Lines is a full day of Tarraxo work built around one question: what happens when you break the rules on purpose?

Three layers:

Find the lines. We start by getting precise about the structures you have already internalised. Posture, timing, weight transfer, lead and follow expectations. You cannot break something you do not fully understand.

Break them. Then we take those structures apart. Off-tempo movement. Unexpected body isolations. Unconventional transitions. Not chaos — intention. There is a difference between making a mistake and choosing not to follow the rule.

Build trust. Breaking rules with a partner only works if both of you are present. The final layer is about communication and play: how to invite your partner into the unexpected, how to follow when the movement stops making obvious sense, how to build a shared language that goes beyond the standard vocabulary.

The day ends with two hours of practice social to put it all to use on a real floor with real people.
