MUKBÄNG

Internettfenomenet mukbang, som oppsto i Sør-Korea og siden har blitt populært over hele verden, viser videoverter som spiser enorme mengder mat mens de sender direkte og samhandler med et nettpublikum – både på et intimt og spektakulært nivå. Tygging, svelging, stillhet og kommentarer utfolder seg i endeløse sløyfer av konsum av hyperstilisert mat.

Inspirert av og fascinert av mukbang skaper 4 FLOORS OF WHORES sitt neste teaterverk, [new nordic] MUKBÄNG, for sultne og ensomme hjerter – en forestilling om å sluke, fortære og spise, samtidig som sulten bare vokser.

I tillegg til å hente inspirasjon fra internettfenomenet trekker [new nordic] MUKBÄNG også paralleller til den greske myten om Erysikthon, som blir rammet av en umettelig sult som straff for sin grådighet, og til slutt ender opp med å spise seg selv. En annen mytologisk inspirasjonskilde er monsteret Yeongno fra koreansk folketro og maskedanstradisjon, som for å vende tilbake til himmelen må spise nøyaktig hundre rike mennesker – men alltid mislykkes ved å mangle én.

Det kunstneriske materialet utvikles gjennom flere arbeids- og prøveperioder i fire nordiske land. Gjennom en work in progress-visning under Dansefestival Barents, etter et residensopphold ved Davvi – Senter for scenekunst, deles arbeidsprosessen med publikum mens det kunstneriske språket videreutvikles i dialog med lokale kontekster. Sort/Hvid Teater i København er hovedprodusent for prosjektet, og forestillingen får premiere der høsten 2027.

MUKBÄNG

The internet phenomenon mukbang, originating in South Korea and achieving worldwide popularity, shows the video hosts eating large quantities of food while broadcasting and interacting with an online audience on both an intimate and a spectacular level. Chewing, swallowing, silence and commentary unfold in endless loops of consuming hyper-stylized foods. Inspired and intrigued by mukbangs, 4 FLOORS OF WHORES creates their next theatre work [new nordic] MUKBÄNG, for the hungry and lonely hearts based around devouring, ingesting and eating while only getting hungrier.

In addition to drawing inspiration from the internet phenomenon, [new nordic] MUKBÄNG also draws parallels to the Greek myth of Erysichthon, who, afflicted with insatiable hunger as punishment for his greed, ends up eating himself. Another mythological inspiration is the monster Yeongno, present in Korean folk lore and masked dance drama, who in order to return to heaven must eat exactly 100 rich people, always falling one short of succeeding. The artistic material is developed through several working periods of research and rehearsal across four Nordic countries. Through a work in progress showing, at Dansefestival Barents following a residency at Davvi - Senter for scenekunst, the working process is shared with the public while the artistic language evolves in dialogue with local contexts. Sort/Hvid Theatre in Copenhagen (DK) is the main producer of the project, and the performance will premiere there in autumn of 2027.
